Thematic walks in Buda Castle District
On the Buda Castle Walks, a previously unknown side of the Buda Castle District can be discovered.
The walk guides of the Várkapitányság organisation will talk about the history of 800 years of Buda Castle, and will show its unique cultural and artistic values. We shall wander around the Buda Castle Palace District and in the civilian town, admire the panorama on Buda’s top, and even venture below ground in search of secrets. Only with us you can also gain access to the spectacular development areas of the National Hauszmann Program. Join us!
Let us discover the true image of Buda Castle together!
I studied history and international relations at the University of Debrecen; and after graduation I started to work as a tourist guide and organised tourist programmes in my hometown, Gyula. In 2021, I moved to Budapest, where working as a tourist guide in a unique place like Buda Castle is the highlight of my career, I think. In my work, I consider it important that besides my historical knowledge I can employ my acting experience ensuring an entertaining presentation style, and due to this participants leave with a smile at the end of my walks. My professional guiding principle is to create and convey value, and get people away from the fast-paced weekdays at least for a short time. As a Hungarian from Timişoara (Temesvár) I have been fascinated by Budapest’s unique architectural palette since I was young; the legacy of the turn of the century, which is present on Budapest’s streets to this day perfectly merged into the past hundred years’ varying aesthetics. My enthusiasm for history, built heritage and fine arts increased as I worked within the borders of several countries as teacher, archaeologist and tourist guide. All these experiences – supplemented by my own research and photography – serve as tools throughout my walks, to merge eras and recall the past. At the Várkapitányság (Castle Headquarters) organisation I became a member of a team where my enthusiasm and admiration provide experience for others. I come from Upper Hungary (today Slovakia), but I graduated from university and college in Hungary, majoring in English and theology. After finishing my studies I spent many years teaching in secondary schools, besides working in office. The idea of being a tourist guide came to me on a trip abroad, when during a walk I suddenly assumed the role of guide and I realised how interesting this profession was. I have always loved working with people, passing on knowledge, so when I told my plan to my friends they encouraged me to go ahead. After the completion of the tourist guide training I guided thematic, mainly historical theme walks in English. My goal is to grab our guests’ attention throughout the walks, and to pass on the knowledge I have acquired while making them smile. Every morning when I come to work, the bus crosses Elisabeth Bridge and tourists admire Buda Castle and I feel so proud to work here. Shall I tell you about it?
